Research and production laboratory “Bionanocomposite” with general university status was formed for basic research and the creation of biomineralization processes on the basis of the results of new biocompatible nanocomposite materials for practical medicine. The supervisor of the laboratory is the head of the department of biophysics, biochemistry, pharmacology and Biomolecular Engineering – Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine Leonid Fedorovich Sukhodub.

The main areas of research of the laboratory is to study the biomineralization of calcium phosphate materials, mechanisms of regulation of crystallization processes and factors that are responsible for the formation of abnormal calcium-phosphate deposits.
Laboratory work is aimed at:
- The creation of new biocompatible nanostructured materials based on calcium orthophosphates and natural chitosan with the inclusion of other compounds of organic and inorganic nature for use in medicine, particularly in orthopedics and traumatology, combustiology, dentistry;
- Development of fusion technology harmless nanoscale structures in nanoreactors and their subsequent use in the practice of medicine;
- Development of fusion technology harmless nanoscale structures in the porous matrix (scaffolds) of different porosity as a matrix using biopolymers collagen and gelatin, chitin, starch and synthetic biopolymers;
- The study of the mechanisms of formation and growth of pathological calcificates, establishing biofactors origin and formation biocristalls and substance-inhibitors lithogenesis.
Lab aims to:
- Conducting research on complex scientific issues involving both medical school faculties and departments of institutes and faculties;
- Cooperation with scientific institutions and laboratories of other countries;
- Participation in project tenders of scientific works to obtain relevant grants;
- Improvement of the training of the teaching staff, including relevant topics;
- To recruit talented students to perform research on modern equipment;
- To provide practical assistance to health care institutions, Sumy and Sumy region, using the power of the laboratory to provide material for osteoplasty, complex bands and more.
